Way too expensive.

Can’t believe the price is $70!! Before shipping. This is insane pricing. Definitely find cacao elsewhere. Keith’s cacao and Fly kakao are amazing and way better price.

Hi Rachel, we published an article on our blog explaining why the price of Heart of the Earth cacao has gone up recently. But in short it's due to the unique challenges the indigenous cacao producers are facing. They're a 100% Mayan woman-owned business in Guatemala. The other brands you mentioned aren't, and one of them just exports seeds to process in a foreign facility. Our model has always been about supporting indigenous sovereignty with ceremonial cacao, and that means it'll cost more than many other products, especially ones made in a modern facility. We also have an article on our blog explaining why our products are priced the way they are in general, and how it's more ethical than 'fair trade' standards. Authenticity costs more, and we're proud to support the historical stewards of cacao. And we also offer a money-back guarantee if anyone doesn't feel the difference and comes to us directly for support, as suggested on the packing slip that arrives with each order.

Bliss in a cup!

Without a doubt, Heart of the Earth is my favorite cacao paste for grounding, journaling, and spiritual work. I add it to rose tea, honey, and a little cinnamon. I find it very potent for at least three hours, so avoid doing anything which might need your full attention (like chopping vegetables) until the bliss has diminished. With its lovely heart-opening and earthy flavor, Heart of the Earth is perfect for private or public ceremonies.

Amazing Cacao

The aroma and taste is fantastic. The experience of drinking the cacao and the connection with it and the medicine it brings is outstanding. I was even impressed with the visual of it. I have had other cacao that was grainy in my cup. This is definitely pure cacao.

Heart of the Earth (Ruk'u'x Ulew) 100% Pure Ceremonial Cacao from Guatemala

This Ruk’u’x Ulew (”Heart of the Earth”) cacao is grown at an indigenous family farm in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. Once harvested, the cacao is sent to Lake Atitlán, where a women’s collective carefully selects the best beans and roasts them over a wood fire. The result is a delicious artisanal cacao with a toasted, traditional chocolate flavor, hint of blackberry, and a "grandmother" spirit. *Our labels and branding are approved by the producers, and we have their consent to share the cacao for the betterment of humanity.*

*amounts are per 1oz of cacao paste

Have you seen our article about polyphenol antioxidant testing of ceremonial cacao? The results are very interesting! Click the image below to learn more.

Cacao has been considered sacred in Mesoamerica for thousands of years, long before the chocolate industry altered the original treasure. It has numerous superfood benefits, and can also deepen introspective practices like yoga and meditation.

Every purchase of this cacao supports Mayan indigenous people through ethical direct trade, and helps them preserve their spiritual traditions and values. For more info about us and our partners, visit our Sources page.

DIRECTIONS
To make a drink of ceremonial cacao, finely chop the cacao. Measure 1/4 cup ground cacao and 6-8 oz of hot water (steaming but not boiling). Mix with a blender (with caution!), handheld frother, or other agitator to fully melt the cacao. Optional: Add a dash of cayenne pepper and natural sweetener to taste. Enjoy!

Cacao can also be added to smoothies, oatmeal, ice cream, and other foods. Experiment with making your own chocolates or bliss balls!
