Really grew on me

At first, I had trouble with the bitter taste of Mama Amor, but wow, it grew on me. Love!

Great for the morning

Making a glass of this goodness is a satisfying ritual for the morning routine. Feels like connection to the Earth itself. While I was drinking this outside one morning, a beautiful hummingbird swooped in to check out the aroma and it was magical. Recommended!

Fruity

This was an interesting experience for me. The foam tastes perfect for my palate, and as I sip deeper into the preparation, I notice the stone fruit come forward strongly. This variety seems to have a little more of an acidity to it than Lava Love and Heart of the Earth, and my body is a little high on acidity right now. I found that acidity with the strong stone fruit to be more than I prefer, so over the course of a few preparations I tried different combinations. My first thought was to balance it with something earthy and bitter (roasted dandelion), which had a minor effect but not enough. I avoided coffee because I didn't want to further increase the acidity. In a subsequent attempt I decided to complement the stone fruit by pairing it with dried sweetened tart cherries and cranberries, and that came together harmoniously and put a smile on my face. I also like it with hazelnuts or roasted almonds in addition to the dried fruit. All of my preparations use oat milk, maple syrup, cayenne, and pink salt (and a very light sprinkle of cinnamon if I'm in the mood). Due to my body chemistry this won't be a regular for me, but I really do enjoy it.

Mama Amor (soon to be "Parcelitas") 100% Pure Ceremonial Cacao Paste

CHOOSE YOUR AMOUNT AND TYPE ABOVE! DUE TO SUPPLY LIMITATIONS, 1LB BLOCKS ARE CURRENTLY LIMITED TO 5 PER CUSTOMER.

Mama Amor's name is changing to Parcelitas to honor the small parcels of land where this (and most Guatemalan) cacao is still grown... and also because we're the only ones who get this cacao toasted over wood fire at Lake Atitlan. Current orders might be shipped with either name on the label.

The cacao is grown by a women's collective in San Antonio Suchítepequez, who told us this cacao work has given them independence and empowerment. After fermentation and drying, the cacao seeds are roasted over wood fire by Catarina and peeled by another women's collective in San Marcos la Laguna. Profile: light body, chocolatey, hint of stone fruit. *Our labels and branding are approved by the producers, and we have their consent to share the cacao for the betterment of humanity.*

*amounts are per 1oz of cacao paste

Cacao has been considered sacred in Mesoamerica for thousands of years, long before the chocolate industry altered the original treasure. It has numerous superfood benefits, and can also deepen introspective practices like yoga and meditation.

Every purchase of this cacao supports Mayan indigenous people through ethical direct trade, and helps them preserve their spiritual traditions and values. For more info about us and our partners, visit our Sources page.

DIRECTIONS
To make a drink of ceremonial cacao, finely chop the cacao. Measure 1/4 cup ground cacao and 6-8 oz of hot water (steaming but not boiling). Mix with a blender (with caution!), handheld frother, or other agitator to fully melt the cacao. Optional: Add a dash of cayenne pepper and natural sweetener to taste. Enjoy!

Cacao can also be added to smoothies, oatmeal, ice cream, and other foods. Experiment with making your own chocolates or bliss balls!
